WONDER LAKE — The current presidential election might have focused the nation's attention on the two major parties, but a Wonder Lake man hopes to change that focus.

David Brady, 45, recently was named chairman of the Illinois Libertarian Party.

"The Libertarian Party faces challenges, but ... we're looking forward to a bunch of change that can occur," he said. "It's pretty exciting."

Brady said his primary goals in the position would be to change the requirements that non-major party candidates need more signatures to be on a ballot than major party candidates. He also wants to expand open-records laws.

"We're definitely going to be more active," he said.

Brady also serves as the McHenry County Libertarian Party chairman. He's been involved in politics since 1991, serving the party in a number of capacities, such as a run for a township council spot in Pennsylvania and as eastern vice-chairman and chairman of the Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania. He's also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. Reserves and the Army.

Libertarians favor a small government, economic and personal freedoms, low taxes and civil liberties.
